General Itinerary:

Departing early from Cusco, we begin our 8-hour journey by private minibus, climbing to the high mountain range at 3,900 m (13,000 ft). After a brief stop in Ninamarca to see the pre-Inca cemetery and the colonial village of Paucartambo, we descend the eastern slopes of the Andes through cloud forest with lush vegetation (ferns, orchids, bromeliads, etc.). We enjoy spectacular views of the Andes and may see wildlife such as our national bird, the brilliant red Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruviana), displaying its mating dance. Walking along the way, you may see tanagers, quetzals, trogons, toucanets, and brightly colored hummingbirds, as well as falcons and possibly your first monkeys, such as the woolly monkey. In the late afternoon, we arrive at Bamboo Lodge (900 m), where we spend the night.

After an early breakfast, we continue on our private transport, passing through the village of Pilcopata and crossing the Pilcopata River to reach the small port of Atalaya (550 m). Along the way, we stop for some birdwatching walks. In Atalaya, we embark on a 20-minute river cruise along the Alto Madre de Dios River. We have the opportunity to observe wildlife along the riverbanks, including capybaras, herons, purple scrub jays, kingfishers, and some of the monkey species that live in Manu.

We arrived at our Buena Vista Manu Lodge to enjoy our lunch.

hours in total (round trip). During the tour we will observe alligators, caimans, shanshos, parrots, and a variety of birds. Upon arriving at Lake Machuwasi, we will use a typical wooden raft to explore the lake and observe the birds.

We will return for our dinner, in the evening, optional: night walk.

Very early at dawn, we'll depart by boat for the parrot and macaw clay lick, where we can observe these vibrantly colored birds gathering to feed on the clay, including the rare blue-headed macaw. After this unique experience, we'll return to enjoy a delicious breakfast.

Next, we'll continue our adventure by visiting the majestic Amazonian ceiba tree, a giant tree that symbolizes the grandeur and power of the rainforest. Afterward, we'll return to Buena Vista Manu, where a nutritious lunch awaits us, immersed in nature.

In the afternoon, we'll take a leisurely walk along the lodge's trails, perfect for spotting more wildlife and discovering the richness of the Amazon rainforest. Finally, we'll board our river transport again, which will take us back to Bamboo Manu Eco Lodge, where we'll end the day with a comforting dinner and some rest amidst the jungle.

After an early breakfast, we'll take a tour of the Bamboo Manu Eco Lodge gardens to identify plants, including the sacred coca plant, and observe different types of birds at the rustic feeders. Then we'll participate in a reforestation activity. Once the activity is complete, we'll have lunch and then head back to the city of Cusco.
